VEPs

An alternative approach
to planning consultation

The Virtual Environmental Planning Project (VEPs) is developing web applications to help people view, comment on and understand the environmental issues associated with proposed planning developments and help them to participate more fully in the planning process.

Demonstrations of the technology are freely accessible online providing an opportunity for people to test the technology and have a say in how it might develop.

VEPs is for anyone interested in the planning process including the general public, planning aid volunteers, politicians and planning officers. Find out more »

Case Study: Stuttgart 21

The Rosensteinviertel is an urban area in central Stuttgart that will undergo extensive changes as part of a large development project - Stuttgart 21.

Redevelopment plans include proposals to move several railway lines underground and to build a mixed-use development and an improved Rosenstein Park in their place. These plans will result in large-scale changes to the centre of Stuttgart and the existing transport system and will affect those living and working in the area.

The VEPs tools will be used to encourage more local people to participate in the planning process by helping them to understand and comment on the development proposals and thus have more say in how their community is developed. Find out more »
